This is a story I would like to share . It should be in the should Christians serve in the forces thread but it has been shut down so I will leave it here.
Back in South Africa in the 1980's a young man was called up for his national service. Basically what is known as being drafted here. Now he was a devout Baptist and did not want to be shooting anyone so took the conscientious objector route which meant he would be used for the odd jobs but would not be forced into actual combat. He would still serve his time like all the rest but as a non combatant.
Anyway it was during his time that South Africa was asked to drive the Cubans out of Angola by the Americans so he was hauled along in the rear hauling all the supplies and equipment. For whatever reason he got separated from the main group and found himself a bit lost in the thick bush.
While tramping through the bush trying to find the main group be heard a woman crying out so he went to see what was happening. It was a couple of enemy combatants there were raping and having their way with a young local native woman. In a reaction the first thing he did was pray and ask the Lord to intervene and that was when the Lord spoke to him as clear as day as in right next to him. “ You are the trained soldier, you are here, what do you want me to do?, go get someone else to do your job ?.” The rapists were duly dispatched and that young man went on to establish a missionary society that was to go into areas of Africa that most others were too scared to go.
Yes we are called to action, If the Christian is not going to defend the down trodden and oppressed then who is. Do you really think that kind of a job can be handed over to satans minions ?
