is a white tree lichen that grows erratically in the boreal forest, most commonly found on popular trees. It is a natural antibiotic, in fact one of the earliest forms of antibiotic. you harvest it in the dead of winter, as the plant is no longer a light green color but pure white. you cannot use it while it's alive as it can be very dangerous due to sporing. you can use it as a tincture as a makeshift flu or cold medicine. it is highly effective when you use vinegar to make the tincture. I have a recipe for a flu medicine, people went gag over it, and usnea is the main active ingredient. some even reported it worked "too good" good to keep a dried stash on hand for when cold season opens up.
